The U.S. House of Representatives is advancing legislation that WOULD mandate the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to explore blockchain technology for improving claims processing. The "Veterans Affairs Distributed Ledger Innovation Act of 2025," introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace, cleared a subcommittee hearing on June 11 and now awaits a full chamber vote.

The bill directs the VA to study how distributed ledgers could enhance transparency, reduce fraud, and streamline benefits adjudication. Veterans have long faced delays and errors in claims processing—a problem lawmakers aim to address with immutable, auditable records.

If enacted, the VA would have one year to collaborate with technologists and other agencies before reporting feasibility findings to Congress. The initiative signals growing institutional interest in blockchain's potential beyond cryptocurrency markets.
